Common questions
Is the public API really free?
Yes. The public API has no key and no cost. A 120 req/min per-IP throttle prevents abuse; if you genuinely need more, get in touch — we'll share a data dump rather than let you hammer the API.
How accurate are the grades?
Our grade lookup agrees with eLife peer reviewers at κ = 0.998 on the gold-standard eval set. See Validate for the live calibration status and Methodology for how grades are derived.
Can I brand assessments as my own?
Yes — the Enterprise tier supports white-labelled grades. We already power assessments at openaccess.ai and openscience.ai.
Does this replace peer review?
No. Every assessment is a machine-generated indicator requiring human expert review. See the methodology page for the full list of limitations.
